Each workshop takes place twice during the summer school and lasts 4.5 days. Participants choose one workshop for the first week and one for the second week. The max. group size is 25 people. During the workshop, several samples and elements are built on site, ranging from tests to real scale.
After your successful registration, we will ask you for your preferences regarding the workshop selection and assign the participants to the topics.
There is time for exchange between the four workshops and you will gain an insight into the different techniques.
The summer school starts with a whole day on material science. The experienced team of amàco will introduce the material earth and its special characteristics through inputs, experiments and practical exercises.
In the afternoon, we will get lectures about the use of plant fibres in architecture. From the basic understanding of the plants to the many possible applications in construction, including examples of traditional and contemporary architecture.
amàco has developed a special teaching method that combines scientific analyses with practical experiments with the materials.
Networking is an important part of our summer school. Peer lectures give participants the chance to present their projects and discuss them with the group.
You have something to share? We will ask you to present a proposal for a 20 min peer lecture and make a selection before summer school.
Guests like Anna Heringer and Martin Rauch are going to give some inspiring lectures and share their experience and visions.
The second theory day is dedicated to the question of how regenerative materials can be used in contemporary architecture. In addition to the workshop tutors, we have invited pioneers who have developed new, unconventional materials such as hemp lime or sheep wool insulation or who are researching new topics such as 3-D print or mushroom mycelium.

with special historical and cultural diversity. Take a day to explore Salzburg or discover vernacular and exciting contemporary architecture in the neighbourhood.
The programme will conclude with a final session to present the workshop results, reflect and raise prospects for our collective work towards more sustainability in the built environment.
We will close the two intensive weeks with a farewell party.
