Application Process
Please fill in the online application form.
Pay attention to the deadlines!
After submitting your application, you will receive an auto- mated message stating that we have received it. This mes- sage will include information on the expected timeline. Please do not reply to this message.
If you do not receive an automated reply, please check your spam folder, before getting in touch with us.
We will review each application and inform applicants about its status, aprox. two weeks after the application period has ended. (Do not submit a second application. This will not speed up the process.)
As soon as you have received the final confirmation of your participation, please send us a short reply. We require a non-refundable deposit of €250 to confirm your place in the programme. (Please note that there are applicants on a waiting list and we would like to inform them in good time if you do not take up your place).
Scholarships
On the application form, you will be asked whether you would like to apply for a scholarship. You will then be asked to briefly explain why you require a scholarship.
To check the eligibility of scholarship applicants, you will be asked to give information on your financial situation and upload a proof of income (three last pay slips, confirmation of enrolment, confirmation of unemployment, etc).
Scholarships will be granted to people who have little in- come, come from low-income countries or have high travel costs. Support will be given to individuals who present an excellent portfolio that reflects their talent and interest in sustainable architecture, who can show their motivation for joining summer school as well as to individuals who will act as multipliers to apply and spread the knowledge learnt at the Summer School in their future life.
We have a three-tier-scholarship programme:
Small scholarship - course fee: €1825.-
Medium scholarship - course fee: €1460.-
Large scholarship - course fee: €1095.-
Neither BASEhabitat nor the University of Arts Linz can pro- vide other kinds of scholarships or financial aid.
What is included in the tution fee?
The tuition fee of the BASEhabitat Summer School includes two workshops with esteemed trainers in their field, as well as talks and evening lectures, exchange sessions and a summer school handbook. The tuition fee also covers accommodation (2-3 bed rooms with private bath room and toilet) and full board (vegeta- rian, seasonal food) for the duration of the summer school.
All participants have to cover their travel expenses, visa fees, additional insurance, etc. BASEhabitat will not cover any personal expenses participants might have. Travel expenses, visa fees, and personal costs (insurance, etc.) are not covered by BASEhabitat.
Options for more comfort
The 2 and 3 bed rooms are randomly assigned. If you want to make sure that you will stay in a double room, we will charge an additional fee of €75. After receiving our confirmation e-mail you can let us know your preference.
Visa questions
BASEhabitat is not able to give any legal advice. Check with your local Austrian embassy or consulate whether you need a visa and about their requirements and the duration of the procedure. You should ask for a „Type C-Visa: short-stay visa“.
We advise you to get in touch with the embassy immediately since the visa process can take a while. Once you have been formally invited to the BASEhabitat Summer School, we can provide a confirmation letter and a proof of accom- modation for the duration of your stay.
Please be advised that BASEhabitat cannot sign any gua- rantees and legal documents like the Austrian Electronic Liability Declaration.
Workshop selection
Participants can choose 2 out of 4 workshops. In due time before the summer school starts we will send out a survey asking you for your preferences (1st - 4th choice).
No, this year we do not offer a bamboo workshop. Instead of bamboo, we are offering a reed and straw workshop.
About the programme
During the Summer School we invite participants to present their work or field of research in an evening lecture.
In one of the emails you’ll receive after you have confirmed your participation, we will ask about your interest in giving a lecture. Please reply to that email when the time comes.
We have learned from the past, that it is very vauable to have a day off in the middle of Summer School. Participants are free to explore the region. There is a wide range of sporting and cultural activities on offer in the surrounding area. The city of Salzburg can be reached in 30 minutes by train. If you prefer, you can also stay in Kuchl. A simple lunch package is provided instead of lunch.
Payment
The payment of the tuition fee consists of two installments. First a non-refundable deposit over €250 to secure your place at Summer School. The second installment will be over the remaining amount payable by June 05, 2025.
To issue an invoice, we need the correct the billing address (including full name and address of the person paying the invoice, can differ from the participant’s name). We must know about your need for an invoice before you make the money transfer. An invoice cannot be issued after the due amount has been received.
To make this easier, we already ask about your billing address in the application form.
You will receive the University of Arts Linz’ bank details in an email. A bank transfer is the only option to pay the parti- cipation fee.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to use alternative payment methods like paypal.
Friends, pets and travelling
Due to the limited number of beds, no visitors can stay over- night at the Summer School. In Kuchl and its neighbouring villages there are several small hotels, bed & breakfasts and campsites.
Visitors have to register and cannot participate in any of the workshops or lectures.
The Holztechnikum Kuchl has a strict no-pets-policy in all its buildings.
We will give you more information on how to get to Kuchl in due time. The closest airports are Munich, Salzburg and Vienna. From there you can take a train to Kuchl. It is a 10-15 minute walk from the station to the campus.
