The design project focuses on the Landungsplatz area in Ebensee (Austria) and develops new scenarios for its (cultural) reuse. The design project is part of the EU Interreg project DECORATOR, which aims to promote circular transformation in the construction sector in the Danube region.

The design project focuses on the currently unused ÖBB railway station building at the Landungsplatz stop. Using this striking building in the centre of Ebensee as an example, we address issues of building in existing contexts and the renegotiation of local identity in the course of transformation processes.
A three-day field research project forms the basis for the analysis of the architectural, historical and social contexts: from historical development and existing spatial structures to local initiatives, local businesses and the regional (construction) economy. As part of a participatory workshop led by non*conform, the students engage in direct dialogue with local stakeholders, project partners and potential users from Ebensee.

In line with the circular economy, we see the building not as a static object, but as a material bank whose construction elements can be reversible, separable and reusable in closed cycles. Based on this, new concepts for adaptive reuse and architectural strategies for the object in the town centre and its surroundings are emerging.
The design does not primarily aim at new construction, but at the preservation, transformation and reuse of existing structures – both for immediate reuse by the municipality of Ebensee and for a long-term, sustainable perspective.
