City - Game - Sense(s): Is play conceivable in participation, or is it merely a dead end? Are discussions automatically devalued as soon as they become playful? Playful elements in urban planning are trendy – but are they also meaningful? Participation often degenerates into mere playfulness, which devalues serious discussions. We believe that playful approaches can do more. We take a look at the complexity of the concept of play in urban planning.

After examining selected case studies, we change perspective: the practical part is about your vision. We play ourselves, reject conventions and discuss the rules of the game for urban space.

Eric Treske is a sociologist, owner of the office intrestik – weiter mit spielen (continue playing) and a member of the citizens' platform Münchner Forum, the Federal Foundation for Building Culture and the international planners' network ISOCARP. "We need ideas and visions of an alternative future so that society can move forward together" Eric Treske.
