BASEhabitat International Summer School
on modern earthen and bamboo construction

When

July 14 - 18, 2014

Location

Altmünster/Austria

The second BASEhabitat Summer School offered for the first time a wide range of workshops on different construction techniques. In addition to rammed earth, adobe and straw+earth were included in the programme. Bamboo, a particularly exciting building material, complemented the earth building workshops.
An excursion led to the impressive contemporary rammed-earth buildings in Vorarlberg and Switzerland.
During the two weeks, the participants built a retreat for the boarding school students near their alpine hut (construction material: rammed earth) and a temporary bamboo pavilion in front of the school, which became a popular meeting place during the summer months.
